POSAC: The Parents of Sexually Assaulted Children
Supporting Parents of Sexually Assaulted Children
At Vital Village OR, we understand the immense challenges faced by parents and guardians when their child becomes a victim of sexual assault. The Parents of Sexually Assaulted Children (POSAC) program was created to provide a safe and supportive space for families navigating this deeply traumatic experience. We offer comprehensive support, education, and resources to help parents and guardians process the trauma, advocate for their children, and begin healing together.
Our Mission
The mission of the POSAC program is to empower parents and guardians with the knowledge, tools, and emotional support they need to help their child recover from sexual assault. By creating a compassionate community, we strive to break the silence and stigma surrounding child sexual abuse, and ensure that no family has to go through this journey alone.
Our Services
We offer a range of services designed to meet the unique needs of parents and guardians:
Support Group Meetings
Weekly peer-led support groups where parents and guardians can share their experiences, gain strength, and connect with others who understand the complexities of their situation. Our group meetings provide a safe space for open discussion, fostering emotional and healing and solidarity.
Educational Workshops
We offer specialized workshops that guide parents through the emotional, legal, and psychological aspects of child sexual abuse. These workshops cover topics such as trauma recovery, how to support your child's healing, understanding the legal process, and preventing cycles of abuse.
Community Outreach
POSAC is committed to raising awareness about child sexual abuse within the community. We work closely with schools, organizations, and local groups to ensure that resources are accessible to families in need and to promote a culture of prevention and safety.
Prevention Program
Education is key to breaking the cycle of abuse. Our prevention programs provide valuable tools for families and communities, offering strategies to protect children from harm and create safer environments.
Online
Resources
For parents and guardians seeking immediate information or unable to attend in-person meetings, we provide a library of online resources, including articles, video content, and downloadable materials, designed to help families navigate this difficult journey at their own pace.
Annual Conference
Each year, POSC hosts an annual conference that brings together parents, advocates, and professionals to discuss best practices in supporting victims of child sexual assault. The event serves as both an educational opportunity and a gathering of community strength and resilience.
Why POSAC Matters
Child sexual assault is an unimaginable experience for any family to endure. The trauma it leaves behind affects not only the child but also the entire family dynamic. Without proper support, parents and guardians may struggle to find the emotional and practical tools needed to help their child recover. POSAC fills this critical gap by providing:

-
A safe space for families to heal and grow.
-
Education on how to best support their child through recovery.
-
Connection to a community of others who have walked this path and emerged stronger.
Our Commitment to Inclusivity
POSAC is dedicated to supporting all families, particularly those from marginalized communities who may face additional barriers to accessing support. We offer culturally sensitive programming and ensure that our services are financially accessible to everyone, regardless of income level. By working closely with local partners and offering bilingual resources, POSAC strives to ensure that no family is left behind in their journey toward healing.
